Autism Core Capabilities Framework

Health Education England has funded the development of a new autism core capabilities framework for health and care staff, and staff in organisations with public facing responsibilities. The framework will span all ages.

The purpose of the framework is to support development and planning of the workforce, and to inform the design and delivery of education and training programmes.

The project delivery team includes people working for Skills for Health, the National Autistic Society, Opening Minds Training and Consultancy and Skills for Care. This group includes some autistic people and people with experience of having autistic family members.

We also have a steering group which is largely drawn from the autism workforce task and finish group, including representatives of The Autism Alliance and The National Autistic Taskforce.

The first stage of the framework development will include 10 half-day co-production groups in January 2019, which will be open to individuals, family members and workers. In addition, there is a much wider consultation group for review of the draft framework and we will also be conducting some individual interviews.

The framework is scheduled for completion by the end of June 2019.
