Meet the team – Richard Beveridge

Always the first to help and volunteer, Richard’s wealth of experience, knowledge and passion embody the values of our organisation. Please take a few minutes from your day to discover a little bit more about Richard.

  • What experiences led you to work for WD Trust?

My first degree is in Librarianship and Information Studies, which led to my first job in investment banking, with Lazard Brothers specialising in research and analysis for mergers and acquisitions and corporate takeovers. I then ran a freelance research service selling to clients in the City in professional services firms. I worked for Thomson (the publishers first in a UK Client Service and then in a European sales role).

I moved from Thomson to Tribal Group, who led the FTSE for ethical public-private partnership. I managed a combination of public and private sector outsourcing contracts, as well as selling consulting services. While I did that, I was part of a bid team which won the contract for the first UK public library service delivered by a private company.

Having spent four years in utility management (solar funding, water cost management), WDT offered me the opportunity to get back to a public-private partnership, but with a more ethical approach.

  • What does an average day look like for you?

Like a great many of my colleagues, I don’t think we have average days. Mine are spent bidding for contracts, developing relationships with customers and managing our accounts in the north of England and in Scotland.

  • What do you enjoy most about your job?

A tough question to answer without resorting to sales or corporate clichés. The breadth of our organisation’s offer, coupled with the great, hard-working group of decent people make working at WDT a great pleasure. We have very good esprit de corps in the sales teams and with our colleagues in our operations and finance teams.

I genuinely believe that the work we undertake does squeeze that little more out of every tax pound our customers spend with us. Because we are able to do this, our customers in all sectors are able to spend that little bit more on their front-line services.

  • What upcoming projects are you working on?

Q2 2020 represents a significant renewal for our e-Rostering portfolio. Renewals and enhanced offers give a great excuse to go out and meet the people who buy from us.

There is also the small matter of the NHS Scotland national e-Rostering tender!

  • In a perfect world…

Tea in offices would be hot and plentiful, sales proposals would write themselves, London Irish and the Orient would be safe by Easter and there would be plentiful, free parking at all of our NHS Trust customer sites!
