Image: Our Health Heroes Winners. We held our third annual Our Health Heroes awards in London last week – and this year they were bigger and better than ever.

Hosted by actor Sunetra Sarker at an afternoon tea-themed award ceremony in London, the event celebrated the unsung healthcare heroes from across the UK. More than 150 people attended the event, which took place at the OXO2 venue.

Organised by Skills for Health, the National Skills Academy for Health and headline sponsor Health Education England, nominees were sought in seven different categories, including operational services support worker, clinical support worker and apprentice of the year. In celebration of the 70th birthday of the NHS, we also introduced a lifetime achievement award this year.

There were also team awards for workforce planning, integrated team, and staff retention and wellbeing employer.

John Rogers, Chief Executive at Skills for Health, said: “Our Health Heroes gets bigger and better each time and this year was no exception.

“This year’s award ceremony has reminded us all what makes our healthcare system so special. It’s the people and teams who go the extra mile, recognise opportunities for improvement and share knowledge and resources.

“It has been an honour to hear more about those individuals, teams and employers who are going beyond their usual remit to deliver high-quality care to their patients and support to one another and their teams.

“Heartfelt thanks to our headline sponsor Health Education England and category sponsors NHS England, NHS Improvement, UNISON and Health Education England - North, which is made up of the South Yorkshire Regional Excellence Centre, the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Excellence Centre and the Humber, Coast and Vale Excellence Centre.”
