Transforming Community Services (TCS)

Effective and efficient community services are the foundation of healthcare in the NHS. They care for people through debilitating illness and at the end of their lives. They are a lifeline for some of the most vulnerable, and at their best these services are innovative, flexible and personal.

The challenge facing the health and social care sector is to drive up quality and drive down costs. The TCS initiative is about delivering improved quality and productivity, as well as building on preventative approaches to reduce costs associated with lifestyle-related disease and preventable complications.

The TCS programme sets out a far-reaching plan to resolve some issues by:

  • improving services
  • developing the people who provide them
  • aligning systems to underpin the transformation.

To facilitate this change, Skills for Health are working closely with health provider organisations, health commissioners, Strategic Health Authorities in the North West and South West regions and the Department of Health to develop workforce solutions.  We are working with six pilot sites across both regions and are developing solutions to help deliver a responsive and flexible workforce in the areas of End of Life, Care Closer to Home, Long Term Conditions and Children’s Services. We are building on this by sharing learning that delivers benefits for healthcare users, employees, organisations and local health economies.

Resources
Skills for Health offers a range of workshops providing your key staff with the knowledge, skills and resources to lead competence based workforce transformation. To support a competence based approach to Workforce Transformation, Skills for Health has produced a guide that can be used to identify specific competences and roles linked to individual TCS areas. Participants who join the ‘Skills Transfer’ workshops will be given tailored support on how to use the guide and maximize the potential of a competence based workforce

If you want help with your TCS related workforce issues – we could work with you too. Please get in touch with Andrew Rundle (TCS@skillsforhealth.org.uk ) to discuss.
