Competences/ NOS

As the Sector Skills Council responsible for the health sector, one of our main functions is to develop, manage and update competences/NOS as the needs of the sector change, as work patterns shift, and as new operational practices, legislation and technologies are introduced. This ensures competences/NOS remain useful and effective.

  • Clinical Imaging and Breast Screening National Occupational Standards Review

Skills for Health is working with employers to review the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Clinical Imaging (2005) and Breast Screening (2003).

In May 2018, A Steering and Reference Group was convened. Since then, the Reference Group has been working on revising the NOS and the revised NOS are now ready for wider consultation. A number of new NOS have also been developed to reflect current imaging modalities.

It is intended that once the NOS is approved, it will be used by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) to approve a new category for Sports Massage Therapists on the CNHC voluntary register.
