South East

About the region

The South East region encompasses 19 county and unitary authorities and 55 districts, stretching in an arc around London, from Thanet in the south east to the New Forest in the south west and to Aylesbury Vale and Milton Keynes in the north west. The South East is home to more than 8 million people comprising 3 million households. The region employs 13% of the total healthcare sector workforce.

Skills for Health is actively working with employers and stakeholders to look at better and more productive ways of working as well as to address any skills shortages.

We are currently involved in a number of pilot projects with a variety of organisations looking at a range of solutions across a range of healthcare specialities. Learning from these pilots will be transferable across the NHS.

Projects

Currently Skills for Health is involved in:

  • Developing a Regional Sector Skills Agreement action plan to cover the South East (consultation underway)
  • Developing a Regional Skills Academy for Health
  • Two European Working Time Directive pilot sites across the region
  • Seven consortiums across the South East who will be delivering the 14-19 Diploma in Society, Health & Development from September 2008.
