The Health Sector
The health sector employs approximately 2 million people across the UK within the National Health Services, independent healthcare providers and voluntary organisations.
The majority of occupations are linked to hospital activities and community health services but the sector also includes general medical and dental practitioners and healthcare professionals working in nursing homes, private surgeries and retail outlets e.g. pharmacists, opticians and self-employed practitioners
The Research & LMI team at Skills for Health are heavily engaged with supporting the implementation of sector skills agreements in each country. This work includes setting up a UK Advisory Group, an annual UK LMI workshop and in establishing a clear strategic relationship with existing workforce planning agencies in each country. The team has commissioned an extensive programme of research on labour market intelligence covering the NHS, independent and community/voluntary sectors.
