Health Protection NOS

Aims / objectives

Skills for Health (SfH) has received funding from the Skills Sector Development Agency to undertake functional and occupational mapping of health protection in the UK in order to develop a suite of health protection NOS.

The work will tie NOS developments in with the current skills development and workforce planning requirements of the sector. The project will be carried out in close partnership with key stakeholders throughout the UK, notably the four departments of health, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and The Health Protection Agency.

Key timings and milestones

Milestone 1 - September 2007:

  • Convene UK Strategy Group and hold first meeting.
  • Research into Health Protection functions, agree parameters of project.
  • Agree project plan and role of partners

Milestone 2 - 31st May 2008:

  • Mapping of health protection functions against health functional map and gaps identified.
  • Consultation with SfH QA team.
  • National Reference Group workshops.
  • New draft NOS developed to fill gaps.
  • Identify field test sites

Milestone 3 - 30th September 2008:

  • Wider consultation and field testing of new draft NOS and existing NOS.
  • Revision of new draft/existing NOS based on field testing and wider consultation.
  • Consultation with SfH QA team

Milestone 4 - 30th November 2008:

  • Sign off of draft NOS by strategy group and NRG.
  • Internal SfH quality assurance.
  • Indicative KSF links identified.
  • Submission to SSDA
