Apprenticeships - Scotland

Although Scotland has no Foundation Modern Apprenticeship is does have a scheme called Skillseekers, run by Scottish Enterprise, which is available to anyone aged 16 to 18

Modern Apprenticeships

There are a number of Modern Apprenticeships available in Scotland which provide an excellent basis for a variety of careers within the health sector.

For young people who have already completed an apprenticeship, there is the opportunity to go onto the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship which includes an SVQ Level 3 and the five Core Skills.

Registration and Certification of Apprentices

A new database is being developed by the The Alliance of Sector Skills Council to enable SSCs to register and certificate learners in their sectors. This is due to be implemented in late 2007. Once implemented, Skills for Health will take on the role of certificating Dental Nursing and the Scottish Social Care Council will be responsible for certificating the Health and Social Care Framework.

Until then certificates for Health and Social Care and Dental Nursing are undertaken via the Modern Apprenticeship Implementation Group (MAIG).
