As the Capital Skills project draws to a close, it’s time to look back on the successes and achievements of the past year. Through an innovative range of projects, employers, partners and young people in London have seen first hand the exciting opportunities that a 14 -19 Diploma can bring.
Funded by the London Development Agency, the Capital Skills Project has seen Sector Skills Councils and Education Business Partnerships working closely together around employer engagement. Skills for Health
was successful in securing funding for six projects with the aim of bringing the Society Health and Development Diploma, due to be taught in some schools and colleges from September 2008, to reality.
The success of last year’s Healthcare Science fair will be built on by a similar event in March 2008, and will be funded by Skills for Health and Aim Higher. A highlight for this year will be provided by members of the Everest
mountaineering team who will be explaining the science and its impact on health in extreme environments.
All six projects will conclude at the end of March and next issue we’ll feature more detail on individual projects and the impact they have made on bringing the Diplomas to life.
