ith effect from April 2008, we are really pleased to welcome NHS National Workforce Projects (NWP) as part of Skills for Health. Given NWP's existing work in the field and the valued support and resources the organisation already provides to healthcare providers, the merger fully supports Skills for Health's strategic aims and its shift of focus from building infrastructure, tools and frameworks into successful implementation.
Since its inception in April 2005, NWP has successfully delivered several projects to help address the needs of the healthcare sector. These incorporate a number of workforce planning programmes which are complementary to Skills for Health's existing career frameworks and competence application tools.
Examples include: a workforce information database; competence-based planning; a healthcare workforce portal; long term workforce planning; workforce planning alignment tools, step guides and rescue packs; programmes to develop the skills of people holding workforce planning roles; resource packs to support workforce planning in key areas such as elective care and care of patients with long term conditions; and guides and tools on engaging the workforce to improve recruitment and retention.
NWP is also the lead organisation to help support the NHS in finding and implementing solutions to the 2009 Working Time Directive.
Our aim is to ensure that the combined strengths of Skills for Health and NWP will provide an even better service in support of employers to develop their workforce.
