Regular visitors to the Skills for Health website will have noticed that the online competence database has grown significantly in the last 12 months. The database is now over 90% complete for generic functions – with over 2000 competences. Plans are afoot to make the tools that access this resource even more user friendly.
User feedback is important to us to ensure the tools keep in step with demand. We recognise our competences are increasingly being used to support larger scale workforce design and development projects.
Having listened to the feedback we are improving the Competence Application Tools by allowing users to:
The new tools functions will be available through a 'Microsoft Windows type' environment, enabling users to create groups for sharing information, send emails to invite people to join a group, and use a messaging facility.
The new system will enable Skills for Health to share examples of best practice by making lists and profiles public. The amount and range of public lists will build up over time but will, for example, enable users to look at role profiles within the career framework and access lists of competences relevant to 18 week commissioning pathways (Department of Health, England).
Look out for the new user friendly competence application tools which will be available in spring 2008 or get involved in testing the new tools by contactingNathan.laxton@skillsforhealth.org.uk
