Leitch - one year on

As the implementation of the Leitch Review’s recommendations begins to gather pace, John Rogers, Chief Executive of Skills for Health, gives us an update on how the organisation has been responding to its challenges and outlines his vision for the future. Skills for Health is entering a critical new phase as it prepares for the next financial year and with it the arrival of the new Commission for Employment and Skills. A fully integrated approach to the UK’s education and skills system is a major step forward and the Commission will be central to this.

Skills funding where it matters

Competence Application Tools to be made more user friendly

Regular visitors to the Skills for Health website will have noticed that the online competence database has grown significantly in the last 12 months. The database is now over 90% complete for generic functions with over 2000 competences. Plans are afoot to make the tools that access this resource even more user friendly.

Supporting workforce development

Developing a skilled and flexible workforce lies at the heart of Skills for Health's work across the UK health sector. That’s why we are working with a wide range of partners to trial and test our workforce development tools and competences through our National Demonstrator Sites (NDS). Our aim is to support healthcare organisations redesign roles and teams to underpin new services and improve services for patients and services users.

Skills for Health joins forces with NHS National Workforce Projects

With effect from April 2008, we are really pleased to welcome NHS National Workforce Projects (NWP) as part of Skills for Health. Given NWP’s existing work in the field and the valued support and resources the organisation already provides to healthcare providers, the merger fully supports Skills for Health’s strategic aims and its shift of focus from building infrastructure, tools and frameworks into successful implementation.
