Sector Skills Agreement for the East of England

The East of England region, covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk has led the English regions in producing its own Health Sector Skills Agreement.

The East of England SSA will be implemented over the next ten years and looks at:

the local population's predicted health and social needs
staff needed to deliver the required care.

The Agreement's primary focus is to provide top quality healthcare, tailored to the needs of the patient and service users, by motivated staff with the correct level and mix of skills required for the purpose, and with educational support from institutions who have a clear insight into the needs and direction of the healthcare providers themselves. It has been developed in cooperation with employers, education providers and users of health care services in the Region.

The Region proposes to address these issues by a variety of methods including:

Attracting young people and other potential recruits by offering first class education and training
Form links with the general public and particularly school age children to highlight the opportunities of working in the Region
Developing a Regional Skills Academy spread over six sites, one in each county in the region
