Pre and Post Intervention Competences Consultation -Milestone 3 Consultation Phase
You are invited to take part in a consultation and comment on the 5 new draft competences for Pre and Post Interventions and a further 3 new draft competences matched to an existent National Occupational Standard (NOS) and offer comments on the 25 revised existing NOS identified as appropriate to pre and post interventions. ( 33 competences in total)
The 5 new NOS have been developed for specific activities in pre and post interventions concerning:
- Resuscitate an individual
- Manage pain for an individual
- Insert and secure medical apparatus to enable administration or drainage of substances
- Manage an individuals fluid levels and balance
- Request investigations for an individual
The 3 new draft competences for comparison with existing National Occupational Standards are:
- Examine site or location of injury or discomfort --- compare alongside CHS 39 Assess an individual with a suspected health condition
- Perform a routine physical examination of an individual --- compare alongside CHS 39 Assess an individual with a suspected health condition
- Assess function of physiological systems or organs---- compare alongside CHS 39 Assess an individual with a suspected health condition
The 12 revised existing NOS include NOS identified within the patient pathway and a further 12 NOS support the patient pathway. They are listed below:
- CHS 38 - Plan assessment of an individual's health status
- CHS 39 - Assess an individual with a suspected health condition
- CHS 46 - Undertake a risk assessment in relation to a defined health need
- CHS 47 - Monitor and assess patients following treatments
- CHS 83 - Interpret and report findings of assessment of an individual
- CHS 119 - Select assessment and investigative techniques /procedures to meet individuals needs
- CHS 120 - Establish an individuals suitability to undergo an intervention
- CHS 121 - Prioritise treatment and care fro individuals according to their health status and needs
- CHS 128 - Take a presenting history
- GEN 4 - Prepare an individual for a clinical/therapeutic activity
- GEN 6 - Prepare the environment and resources for clinical/therapeutic activities
- HSC 427 - Assess the needs of carers and families
Additional 13 NOS to complement the pre and post functional map - some or all of these NOS listed below may be applicable to your role or workforce within Pre and Post Interventions
- GEN 5 - Support individuals during and following clinical/therapeutic activities
- GEN 7 - Monitor and manage the environment and resources during and after clinical /therapeutic activities
- GEN 8 - Assist the practitioner to implement clinical/therapeutic interventions
- GEN 60 - Support individuals during emergency situations
- GEN 62 - Collate and communicate information to individuals
- HI 4 - Collate and validate data and information
- CHS 40 - Establish a diagnosis of an individual health
- CHS 41 - Develop and agree treatment plans for individuals
- CHS 44 - Plan activities, interventions and treatments to achieve specified health goals
- CHS 45 - Agree course of action following assessment to address health and well being of individuals
- CHS 56 - Provide clinical information to individuals
- CHS 104 - Brief the team for an individual's intervention
- CHS 105 - Agree nature and purpose of investigation into an individual's health status
These 33 NOS activities are carried out by a range of practitioners working within pre and post interventions. If you carry out some (or all) of all of these activities as part of your role/job or you supervise people who carry out these activities, we would welcome your feedback on the relevant NOS for your roles/activity in this project consultation phase.
The Milestone 3 consultation phase will take place from 1st August until 31st October 2008. You can participate in this consultation through individual email and through participation in a pilot site consultation.
