Awards presentation

Skills for Health looks to support and celebrate best practice across the health sector and as such sponsors the ‘Skills Development' Award at the annual Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards. This year the DESMOND (Diabetes Education for Ongoing and New Diagnosed) Programme was the winner of this much sought after accolade.

This pioneering programme, which has been running for three years, is aimed at Type 2 Diabetes sufferers. It offers them a way of finding out more about the condition, how to self manage it and an opportunity to meet and share experiences with others.

The programme also provides training and quality development for facilitators - put forward by healthcare trusts - delivering patient self management.

"This very prestigious award means so much to our trainers. This national recognition is a real validation of their work. I am delighted for all of them and very proud of their achievement."
