We are just months away from young students being able to choose the Diploma in Society, Health and Development (Diploma in SHD) from the first consortia of schools and colleges to offer the new qualification.
From September 2008 the Diploma in SHD, an exciting and innovative qualification for 14-19 year olds, will be available at 38 sites in England.
This is the culmination of more than three years hard work between a partnership of Skills Active, Skills for Care, Skills for Justice and Skills for Health. It is just one of 17 new Diplomas being developed for inclusion in the curriculum over the next couple of years.
What has been really encouraging is the support and enthusiasm from employers for the new Diploma in SHD. They have wanted to be a part of its development and delivery from the start - realising the benefits it can bring to them in the form of a suitably prepared young workforce which has the skills and knowledge that it needs to meet the future workforce needs.
The principal learning qualification within the Diploma has been designed and led by employers. We have worked with them to reflect their needs within the design of the Diploma in SHD to allow an exciting form of applied learning to become available.
