Gold, Silver, Bronze Winners

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to an individual who can demonstrate achievement within healthcare over the course of their career.

A long-serving family support worker from Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital has been named as the Lifetime Achievement #NHS70 winner at the prestigious Our Health Heroes awards.

Helen King, who has been a family support worker at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital for more than 30 years, took the title after dedicating her life to supporting young patients who have suffered from burns.

Helen impressed the judges with her lifelong commitment to her patients, for whom she set up an informal support group ‘Enzo’s Friends’ which is the only paediatric service of its kind in the country.

Helen’s colleagues have recognised how important she is in the lives of her patients, thanks to the sheer number of them who have stayed in touch over the years.

In addition, Helen is a strong member of the team – often referred to as a mother figure – who always seems to say the right thing. When words are not enough, Helen demonstrates warmth, empathy and kindness through her actions.
