And in recognition of #NationalApprenticeshipWeek a few weeks ago, we’re extremely pleased to announce that long-term supporters of Our Health Heroes, UNISON, will be sponsoring the Apprentice of the Year Award 2019.

UNISON has supported Our Health Heroes from the first year – and is also sponsoring the Operational Services Support Worker of the Year in celebration of the union's One Team campaign.

John Rogers, CEO of Skills for Health, said: “We are delighted that UNISON will be working with us again to recognise all the hard working and dedicated apprentices working in health, who are truly part of Our Health Heroes.”

UNISON champions thousands of public service apprentices and is extremely proud of the many apprentices who belong to the union and make valuable daily contributions to the workplace.

Apprenticeships provide a fantastic opportunity to ‘earn and learn’ in a wide range of jobs, giving apprentices the chance to develop skills, experience and qualifications.

UNISON head of health Sara Gorton said: “UNISON is delighted to sponsor this award. Day in day out apprentices in the NHS are making a difference, working hard all year round to put their learning into practice and improve patient care. Apprenticeships provide valuable opportunities for career development and progression. It's important that they are well-funded and open to everyone.”

Nominations for the 2019 Our Health Heroes will open on the 8th of April. To pre-register your interest in nominating your very own Health Hero, sign-up for launch updates.
