surgeonsFurther to the submission of an expression of interest to the Department for Education to develop an apprenticeship standard for Operating Department Practitioner, we are delighted to announce that the EoI has been approved.

An employer led group Trailblazer will now take forward the drafting of the Apprenticeship Standard and accompanying end-point assessment plan. Once ready for wider consultation, an on-line survey will be available at http://www.skillsforhealth.org.uk/trail-consultations. Further communications are planned to let you know when the consultation is open.

Victoria Maher, Chair of the Trailblazer said: ‘’We are delighted that the Department of Education have supported our collective application to develop an apprenticeship standard for Operating Department Practitioner. This role is so important for patient care and we look forward to developing a sustainable workforce model.’’

Andrew Lovegrove, Senior Consultant at Skills for Health said: “This is great news, Skills for Health has been working with employers over the last year on the trailblazer initiative and its pleasing to know that our efforts have been endorsed which will enable us to make progress on the development of the apprenticeship standard for ODPs.’’
