Image: Health Trailblazer Apprenticeship. In March 2015 two new Apprenticeship Standards were approved then published by BIS; one at level 2 for Healthcare Support Workers and one at level 5 for Healthcare Assistant Practitioners in England. The standards were developed by an employer-led steering group jointly chaired by Jane Hadfield, North Bristol NHS Trust and Kay Fawcett, OBE and facilitated by Skills for Health. The second phase of work is now underway and the group are currently designing assessment plans to accompany the published standards. A public consultation is planned to run from the end of this month into early September. Full details of the consultation and link will follow when it goes live.

The employer-led steering group is also charged with developing a new Apprenticeship Standard at level 3 for Senior Healthcare Support Workers, which is progressing well. The steering group expect to have a draft available for public consultation towards the end of the year.

If you would like to know more about the changes to apprenticeships you can view full details on the BIS website, including the detailed guidance that the standards and associated assessment plans are being written to.
