Rehearsing uncertain futures

Rehearsing Uncertain Futures: One-day horizon scanning events
22 and 23 September 2010: London

In today’s fast-changing health sector, making sense of the complex and often contradictory information that we receive can seem a daunting task.
Rehearsing Uncertain Futures is Skills for Health’s ongoing programme for scenario planning and development. An outline of the work we have carried out so far can be found here; these scenarios are an important step in helping us prepare for future uncertainties. The next phase of our development is to deepen the scenarios further and to develop an ongoing narrative about the sector.

We are therefore very pleased to announce dates for two one-day horizon scanning sessions on 22 and 23 September 2010. In these two events, delegates will be challenged to explore a whole range of evidence from policy announcements and hard evidence to examine the trajectory of the sector in relation to each of the scenarios that we have created.

Feedback from colleagues who have attended previous sessions has highlighted how enjoyable and demanding they have found them. They provide an excellent opportunity for like-minded people to consider the implications of ongoing trends in the sector and can help colleagues be proactive and comfortable with planning for the future rather than being reactive.

The debates are summarised and the attendance of colleagues is recorded and reports of the day will be sent to delegates. However specific comments and viewpoints will not be attributed to any individuals or organisations they work within.

The two one-day workshops will begin at 10am and end at 4pm. Our offices are conveniently located for access by public transport. If you intend to fly to London, the Piccadilly line from Heathrow stops nearby at Russell Square and there are other stations for the Victoria, Northern and Circle & District lines nearby. Euston and Kings Cross rail stations are around five and 15 minutes' walk away, respectively.

If you’d like to attend please complete the this form and email it to Debbie Bibby to indicate whether or not you will be able to attend, or whether you would like to be contacted about future scenario planning events that we may conduct. If you have a colleague that might be interested, please forward this email to them for their consideration. If you have any questions please contact Debby Bibby on 0141 889 4031 or email debbie.bibby@skillsforhealth.org.uk
