Health Trade Unions and Skills for Health collaborate to increase learning and development opportunities
The 2009 Unionlearn Annual Conference formed the backdrop for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Skills for Health and six NHS trades unions.
The MoU formalises the recommendations made by a Joint Action Working Group consisting of representatives from UNISON; the Royal College of Nursing; UNITE; GMB; Managers in Partnership; the Royal College of Midwives and Skills for Health.
Recognising the significant contribution of trades unions and Skills for Health to the widening participation agenda, the MoU underpins the action plan developed by the Joint Action Working Group and builds on the existing partnership between health trade unions and Skills for Health – originally outlined in the 2006 Sector Skills Agreement.
John Rogers, Chief Executive of Skills for Health said:
“Health trade unions, Skills for Health and Unionlearn have a shared strategic ambition to increase the learning and development opportunities available for all staff – particularly those in pay Bands 1 to 4. Such opportunities allow people to develop themselves as individuals, progress in their learning and careers, and maximise their contribution to service transformation and improvement.”
