Learning Design Principles
Skills for Health has created a set of Learning Design Principles which are guiding statements for those involved with designing healthcare qualifications.
A detailed explanation of our Learning Design Principles is available.
In summary, these principles advocate that all qualifications should be based first and foremost on a thorough analysis of the needs of the healthcare service.
It is our belief that it is only after the purpose of a role and its competences have been specified should the appropriate level, and hence, type of qualifications be identified, commissioned and developed.
Using our Learning Design Principles enables employers (and learning providers) to: create more accessible learning for healthcare staff; tailor learning to individuals; and provide better opportunities for individuals to progress within the overall framework of qualifications. They support flexibility, transferability, progression routes and an overall ‘fitness for purpose’. Ultimately using sound learning design leads to better recognition of learning across the health sector. Using our Learning Design Principles has helped a number of Awarding Bodies and education/training providers create accessible education pathways which help individuals increase their skills, thereby improving the contribution they can make to their organisation.
